Mr BuzzKing’s Puppet Tree is a not-for-profit community project that was set up by David Leech, aka Mr BuzzKing, in Staffordshire in April 2023 so local people could discover the art of puppetry by making their own puppets, creating their own shows and stage public performances at Puppet Tree Events, benefiting the local community and enable them to become actively involved with something very creative and rewarding.

Having recently moved back to Weymouth in Dorset, David aims to arrange puppet making and performance activities in and around Weymouth starting in the Spring 2026, so people of all ages can become actively involved with the wonderful world of Puppetry. David spent a lot of his childhood days putting on shows in and around his home-town of Stone, Staffordshire, in schools, at children’s parties and in his back garden. By 1969 he was known as “Stone’s Young Puppet Master.”
He established his first professional puppet theatre over 40 years ago in 1983. It was called the ‘Captain Portland Bill Puppet Theatre’ and was based in the Pavilion Theatre, Weymouth, Dorset. Prior to that he was employed by the world famous toy manufacturer, PELHAM PUPPETS and spent much of his time working alongside the Founder, Bob Pelham designing and building their Animated Display Units. In 1980, he also designed and built the Pelham Puppet Theatre within the Puppet Factory. (More details about my time there can be found on my website HERE.”
